Kara Michael Therapy

Welcome

The adolescent, college-age and new motherhood seasons can be some of the most formative and complex seasons of our lives – with big feelings and questions around identity, values and our place in this world. These complex seasons can also bring up a sense of loneliness and grief, leaving us wondering: “Who am I? What do I want?” These are brave questions. Seeking support in the midst of these questions can be an act of kindness towards who you are now and towards the person you are becoming.

I love working with adolescents, young adults, women and mothers as they navigate the complex dynamics and emotions of high school, college, adulthood and motherhood. My past experiences working in a therapeutic school, on university campuses and with youth, adolescents, families, and individuals in community mental health have given me the honor of co-journeying with individuals in many seasons of life. I believe therapy can be a powerful component towards wellness and liberation in individuals, families and society overall.

Therapeutic approach

My work is grounded in relational psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory and narrative therapy to name a few. I deeply enjoy the creative process and at times use art to facilitate reflection within sessions. However, you are central, not merely my approach, so together we will find unique ways to bring healing.

From the beginning we'll work towards building a strong therapeutic relationship and I'll join you where you are at with curiosity and patience. Together we may begin to notice themes, patterns and ways of relating which no longer serve you. We may also explore your understanding of who you are and who you want to be. This is often a helpful start, leading to greater awareness, growth and fulfillment.
